Irish Church Records

Vaughn Johnson

There are three major religions in historic Ireland, Catholics, Church of Ireland (Church of England), and Presbyterian. Catholic records are available for almost all parishes in Ireland. They are available on Roots Ireland, Ancestry, Find My Past, Irish Genealogy and The National Library of Ireland. Unfortunately, no single source is an ideal solution.

About half of the Church of Ireland records were destroyed in the Four Courts fire in 1922. Roots Ireland is the best source for the remaining records for most counties.  Irish Genealogy has records for County Kerry, Western Cork, and Dublin.
