Kathleen Bird, JD
Kathleen is President of Northland Genealogy Society and a director for the Clay County Archives and Historical Library, Inc. She has been conducting family research since 1985 when she started gathering family stories. A lifelong hobby historian, she is author of several books on local history, and a 2024 recipient of the D.A.R. Historic Preservation Award.

Finding Ancestors: Research or DNA or Both? - Northland Genealogy Society - When seeking ancestors, what is the best way to investigate? Research can be overwhelming and lead to brick walls. DNA results require analysis. A panel of five genealogists will discuss the advantages and drawbacks of each approach and how combining both may lead to the best results. Objectives: learn basics of document research and DNA analysis; learn strategies for combining them for the best results; and learn the value of verifiable and credible evidence. Learning outcomes: what document research is helpful when starting lineage investigation; what DNA tests and analysis strategies are feasible for genealogy hobbyists."
