Lisa taught sociology, anthropology, and history classes at Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University before moving back to Missouri to teach and be near family. She writes novels and has been published in various literary journals. Lisa is the recipient of the Samuel C. Dellinger Award from the University of Arkansas Anthropology Department, and the 2007 Teaching in Excellence Award. She and her husband live in a 19th century Catholic church they are renovating while carefully trying to accommodate any resident ghosts. They are the parents of eight children and twenty grandchildren.
Pregnant Women Can't Make Pickles: The Joy of Oral History - Lisa Aldridge
This is an introduction to the critical role of oral histories in society and as a tool for genealogical research. We will cover the Interviewing Process, including ways to listen, issues in cross-cultural interviewing, family myths, and life histories with people who have learning disabilities. We will also discuss the Interpretation of Memories, including changing perspectives over time, truth and inaccuracy, empathy and ethics.
We will conclude by discussing Making Histories, including archives, meaning and transcription, and a brief discussion of the future of oral history.
