Mary has been doing her own genealogy research since 1999, and she has been at the Midwest Genealogy Center since 2016. She enjoys every minute of discovery, which began in the Midwest and continues from the East Coast to finding her roots in England and Wales. Mary’s excitement comes in teaching all that is genealogy, whether in a classroom setting or on a one-on-one basis. She also enjoys learning, particularly about how to research in other countries. What she loves the most, though, is helping others in their journey to make their own family discoveries.
The War that Time Forgot: Connecting with your Ancestors Who Fought in the Mexican American, Spanish American, or Philippine-American Wars
Every researcher knows about the well-known wars: the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, the Civil War, World Wars 1 & 2. But what about the military conflicts that happened between these “big wars”? It seems to be that time has forgotten about those who served in the Mexican (1846-1848), Spanish (1898), and Philippine (1899-1902) Wars. In this class, we will discuss how to research your ancestor who might have fought in one of these conflicts, trying to determine what documents still exist and how to access them.
