Nathan Wittmaier has been the Digital Collections Manager since 2025 and with Mid-Continent Public Library since 2014. His prior library experience includes management of large web-based library systems, web development, and web design. Before working for MCPL, he also worked as a reporter, photographer and editor for small local newspapers and in a communications role at the University of Central Missouri. He is passionate about the library’s commitment to preserving local history, and he enjoys the challenge of drawing attention to the archives and digital collections at the Midwest Genealogy Center.
Connecting Present and Past through The Founding
The Midwest Genealogy Center is currently working with area photographers on a community archiving project to document the communities of Jackson, Clay and Platte counties through the lens of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This project is part of a new initiative to combine efforts to document the present and preserve it for the future, blending with the digitization of historical records. Nathan will share progress on our project for 2026, The Founding, as well as information about general community archiving efforts and how the community can access them along with other digitized records online.
